Numbers by Rachel Ward

Publishers’ blurb

Ever since she was child, Jem has kept a secret: Whenever she meets someone new, no matter who, as soon as she looks into their eyes, a number pops into her head. That number is a date: the date they will die. Burdened with such awful awareness, Jem avoids relationships. Until she meets Spider, another outsider, and takes a chance. The two plan a trip to the city. But while waiting to ride the Eye ferris wheel, Jem is terrified to see that all the other tourists in line flash the same number. Today’s number. Today’s date. Terrorists are going to attack London. Jem’s world is about to explode!

  1. Rachel Ward. Numbers. Chicken House. 2009.
About a girl who sees the dates people die and she ends up in trouble because of it.
I thought it was ok but a bit predictable.

  2. Numbers by Rachel Ward, published by Chicken House in 2009 is about a girl who can see the dates of people’s deaths. Then she meets Spider who’s death is in the very near future and through a series of events they find themselves on the run from the police. I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I believed I would from the blurb because it was boring and nothing much happened. There was also too much swearing.

  3. Rachel Ward. Numbers. Chicken House. 2009.
About a young girl who sees the dates that people will die.

I felt that it was ok but not the best as it was a bit predictable. Also there was too much unnecessery swearing.

  4. I quite liked Numbers. But I don’t think I liked it as much as I’d hoped. It was a good story, maybe a little predictable but it was fun nonetheless. I’ve read the blurb to the sequel and that sounds really really good, so even though I was a wee bit disappointed by this one, I will definitely been giving The Numbers 2:Chaos a read.

  5. Rachel Ward. Chicken house. Numbers. 2009.
I felt that the book was quite boring and thought it dragged on a bit too long.

  6. Numbers is a book about two teenagers on the run from the police. The two main characters are called Jem and Spider. Jem is a teenage girl who can look into people’s eyes and see the date that they are going to die. Jem becomes friends with Spider when she is on the run – she is the main suspect of a terrorost attack. Spider and Jem fall in love whilst fleeing the town. The book jumps into the future but it is originally set all over England.

The book is a good idea but it is very repetative and there was nothing in it to make me continue reading it. This book did not appeal to me.

I would not reommend it for the Catalyst Award.
