TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow

You are police….. Here to police time.  To stop trespassers from the future changing things in the past.  The agency is top secret.  It isn’t really supposed to exist, so we don’t have a proper job title.  But inside the agency, we call ourselves Time Riders.

Publishers’ blurb

Liam O’Connor should have died at sea in 1912.

Maddy Carter should have died on a plane in 2010.

Sal Vikram should have died in a fire in 2029.

Yet moments before death, someone mysteriously appeared and said, ‘Take my hand . . .’

But Liam, Maddy and Sal aren’t rescued. They are recruited by an agency that no one knows exists, with only one purpose – to fix broken history.

Because time travel is here, and there are those who would go back in time and change the past. That’s why the TimeRiders exist: to protect us. To stop time travel from destroying the world . . .

  1. “Time Riders” – what can I say? One of the best books I’ve read in ages. This may be my new favourite (after my old favourite (which was even better) was ‘mysteriously’ rejected). Time-travel really interests me; I love to read books about it and Alex Scarrow had hit the nail on the head. The characters – great. The setting – great. The novel – great. Get it on the shortlist. Now.

  2. This is definitely my favourite book from the longlist, so far. Everything I like in a book, adventure, history, science fiction all rolled into one. I read this book in one sitting, couldn’t put it down and was on the edge of my seat as I turned each page (all of those analogies that relate to great books apply here, in my opinion). If your looking for a bit of escapism you could do worse than to sit down with this book for an hour or two.

  3. I have just finished reading ‘Time Riders’ today after starting it last night and reading it at every available moment. I found this book truly unputdownable and I can not wait to read the next installment in this exciting adventure.

  4. I was worried that this book would be too sci-fi for my tastes but I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this novel. The plot was fast paced and I liked that it had short chapters. Easy to follow (even though dealing with the theory of time travel) and an interesting look at history. Although not my favourite read from the longlist this should be on the shortlist.

  5. Time Riders is a fantastic series of novels each one better than the last I am currently on the third novel and awaiting the forth in august.

  6. Overall,it looks like a good book.
The idea of time travel isnt’t exactly new and the beginning didn’t exactly drag me right in but the content and the style it is written in is pretty decent and fits in if you know what I’m saying. The characters are interesting as well and the ideas seem to expand as you go along, making you more interested

  7. After finishing the book I must say I am impressed
the intensity built up more and more as I went through which I felt was really good
Interesting no doubt and good competition for the book award

  8. Didn’t think I’d enjoy this as sci-fi not my usual genre but I loved the pace of the story. It was hard not to love it.

  9. I extremely enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put the book down!! I liked how the book was set out because if you got confused with historical dates it was printed at the top of each page. I also found the different time scenes extraordinary because it gave you a taste of mini adventures all in the one book. I am now going to read the rest in the series. All in all I would recommend this book to book worms and young adults even adults. They would find this book interesting and capturing.

  11. Time Riders is an absorbing book, it has a storyline that is hard to forget and is very difficult to put down. i always found myself saying ‘one more chapter, then I’ll put it down.’ it builds up characters which you feel close to who generate sympathy or happiness in their actions. Alex Scarrow created a book with such detail that i felt part of the story, as if I was there. i thoroughly enjoyed reading this and would read it again and again.
