  3. Author: tim bowler

    Title.: Bloodchild

    Publisher:oxford

What’s the story?: the story is about a small boy called will. He isnt really normal as he claims to see hallucinations which are mixed between real and not real. He was hit by a car but was fortunatley saved when a girl called for help but left before the ambulence but as a result of the blow from the car ,will has lost his memory .
Will has never been liked in his town but things have turned for the worst and his life is in danger aswell as some of his friends lives.

What are the themes and issues in the book?
the books theme is thriller and it raises the issue of the facts that people judge people to quickly

    Is it for me?
i found this book to be exciting and gripping so i would recommend it

  4. The novel follows a few weeks in the life of the protagonist Will. It takes him from having a bad accident and suffering amnesia. He goes back to a town where no-one seems to like him and he senses something wrong with the town. Will suffers visions to do with the wrong thing, one of these visions leads him to meet a young boy, Muck, who never speaks a word. twice within this novel Will is attacked and at the end he is dumped in the ocean by his previous attackers only to escape and find out the source of his visions. The mysterious Muck turns out to be a vital part of the wrongness in the town.

Apart form Will all the characters are mysterious due to lack of description. Will himself is described as an outsider in a way because of people not liking his visions.

The plot is exciting with a lot of twists and the visions are always vividly described.

This book definately deserves to be on the Catalyst shortlist.

  5. Will wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory, but lots of frightening images in his mind. While he struggles to cope with the amnesia, he gradually discovers that he frequently has visions – his parents believe he has mental health issues and most of the local community fear and hate him. Will, however, knows these feelings point to a deeply terrible secret about the local area.

The story is set on the coast with interesting and mysterious characters. There are chases and attacks and unexplained events. Will’s visions are frightening with the constant appearance of blood and water and strange faces that he doesn’t understand. Some of the faces appear in real life, like the little boy called Muck, others only he can sense.

Bloodchild is a fantastic read although I thought it tailed off just a little towards the end. A lot of mysteries were cleared up at the end, including one that I hadn’t even seen as a mystery to begin with – perhaps one revelation too many?

    Definitely worth a read though.

  6. i really liked this book , its about a boy named will who can see horrible things in his community and people hate him for what he can see, but he is going to find out what its is and help the littlle boy who no-one knows where he is from and try and find the girl he saw after his accident

i think this book is for people who like reading

  7. Will wakes up in hospital with a bad memory loss and lots of frighting images and struggles to cope with it all. He Discovers he has Frequant visions and his parents are worried about him and think is is metally unwell and most of the community are terrified of him and hate him But will knows that the visions mean something and is determind to find out what is it thats been happening while he has been gone.

The story is set on the cost with some strange characters all feeling differetn emotions for will. Lots of bad things start to happen in the town and will is Determind to find out what.

Wills Visions become more stronger throuhgtout the story and he starts to see red sea and shoadowfaces,The shadowfaces appear in real life, Like the little boy called Muck and others he can only see in the visions.

Blood child is a fantastic book,so much happening which makes you want to keep reading, All the mysteries were cleared up at the end which was a shame i though some could have been put in the middle of the story to make it more interesting.

This book is definetely worth reading.

  8. i enjoyed this book it has a mysterious storyline with twists and turns along the way. will ends up in strange town where no one likes his visions. all the characters in the book are very mysterious and are not described very well overall its a great book and i would recommend.

  9. Tim Bowlers novel, “Bloodchild” is about a teenage boy called Will who has amnesia after being hit by a car and almost losing his life. Now back in his home town with many faces he doesn’t remember, Will is yet again plagued with hallucinations telling him that something is wrong, as he was before the accident. Will goes on a journey to find out what evil is in his town and what he finds is something that nobody expected to find.

Will come into contact with many other characters in this novel. Some of these characters are described vividly while others were quite bland and unrealistic.

This novel is quite complicated, with many twists and turns. It really pulls the reader in and has a very addictive story line. I would recommend this book only to people who enjoy reading and are not thrown off by a complicated book.

  12. Blood child was a good book but it was confusing when he kept talking about a sickness. It had a brilliant opening chapter. It was good when he wakes up but has forgotten everything, all his memories. All he remembers is two girls 1 with black hair and another with blond. He starts having dreams about shadow people.Anyone who reads this book will enjoy it, i did. 🙂
